Simple Updates

As I have been working on my living room, I have been updating a few things I already had to match the makeover. One of the first things I did was recover my bar stools. Here is a before and after from the first time I recovered them.

Here is a picture after recovering the seats for my new makeover.

Here is a quick tutorial.

First, I took the fabric off of the seats and used it as a pattern to cut out the new fabric.

Make sure you iron your fabric before this next step.

Next, you want to center the seat on your fabric. Then you are going to pull the fabric tight and staple it until all of the edges are flat. I stapled one side and then went directly across from it and stapled the other side Just do this all the way around.

Then screw the seat back into the bar stool and ta-da! Your bar stools are complete!

Another thing I have updated was my lamps. They originally looked like this.

I wanted white lamp shades so I used some shades I had bought a while back at Target on clearance.
This is what they looked like when I bought them.

They were made out of burlap. So I decided to paint them white.

It worked out well. I like the way they turned out.

Then I wanted to do something to the lamp. So I taped up the hardware and the cords and got out my spray paint.

I decided to paint them yellow. The only problem is finding the right color yellow. I painted the lamps with one yellow I already had and it looked too pastel. So then I got a bright yellow and painted them. They looked pretty good with the natural light coming in during the day, but when you turned on the incandescent lights at night, it looked pastel. They just still weren't what I wanted. So I went searching and finally found the color above. It pretty much is a school bus yellow. So under the incandescent lights at night it looks like a normal yellow. I never thought I would have that much trouble finding the right yellow. So here is what they looked like after they were finished.

Then there were some accessories that I moved around from different places or painted with the colors I am using.

I had bought this vase at Goodwill last summer and painted it orange to match the living room. I updated it by spraying it a light aqua blue.

Another thing I decided to update were my coasters.

I had these coasters and they just weren't working for me. I decided to paint them. I first sprayed them white.

Once they dried, I made stripes by taping them with masking tape.

I sprayed them gray and then peeled off the tape. I then sprayed them with a clear protective spray and they were finished.

Then I decided to make a holder for the coasters out of a candle holder that I already had.

I just spray painted it with the same gray paint from the coasters.

So with a little bit of spray paint {or for me, a lot of spray paint} and fabric you can make simple updates to really change the look of a room! Everything is coming along in the living room make-over slowly but surely! I hope you all have a wonderful Memorial Day weekend!

It has been a while...

Wow! It has been a really long time since I have been on here! Sorry for my absence! Surprisingly enough, I have actually been really busy. Ben finished up his finals a few weeks ago and since then we have been running around like crazy. Needless to say, I haven't got much done on my current house projects. I have been very fortunate and have had a lot of work this month. Of course, it would work like this...Ben is out of school and I have to work everyday! It will probably die down when Ben starts back to school. That would be my luck! Ha! Anyways, I have been filling in at three different offices including Ben's dad's office in Oakwood. So I have been driving back from Augusta every weekend to work. I'm not gonna lie, I am about tired of driving and I just got started. Haha. I will be working throughout the summer on Fridays and Saturdays. It is nice to get to come back and see my family though. Other than work, we have been out to dinner with some of Ben's friends from dental school and my family came down one weekend to visit. My parents came and brought down my sweet Jaxon boy! We went out to the pool and cooked out for Cinco de Mayo. We had a great time!

Giving me some attitude. That's one bad boy!

I had to lather his hair with sunscreen to keep his little white head from being burnt!
Omg! Such a cutie!

This was obviously the first time we've been out in the sun...don't judge!

We came back last weekend for Mother's Day. Ben's parents were out of town the whole weekend so we just spent the weekend at my parent's house. I didn't take any pictures but we had a great time just hanging out.

I love my mama! She really is the BEST!!!
We came again this weekend. Ben went off camping for the whole weekend. So I stayed and worked and spent the weekend with my family. I got to see the twins (my little sister's best friend's babies) two days in a row! Me and my mom actually got to babysit them! I brought some of my photography stuff and had a mini photoshoot with the girls. I have to edit them but here are some snapshots that I took. They are absolutely adorable!!!I just love those little girls!

One of my good friends, Jessica, had her 2nd baby this past week. It was a little girl and they named her Mailey Rose. Ben and I are going to see her this afternoon! I can't wait to see that precious little girl! This weekend has been a baby filled weekend! I love it!

My baby sister, Mattie, is graduating tomorrow. I can't believe she is graduating. She has grown up so fast! I am so proud of her! She has already been attending Cosmetology school, so she will now start full time this week. I am so excited for what lies ahead!

Beautiful!

We will had back to Augusta tomorrow night after Mattie's graduation so that I can work this week and then we will be back on Thursday in Gainesville so I can work on Friday. Then back to Augusta for a wedding Saturday. It is going to be another busy week! I hope you have a great week. I will try to not be away so long next time!

A Busy Week

Happy Friday! It has been almost a week since I have posted. I thought I would drop by and share a few things from our week.

I went back to Gainesville last weekend and worked for Dr. Martin. I went ahead and stayed through Monday with my parents. My mom and I worked on painting and distressing her bedroom furniture. It turned out beautiful!

Before and After pictures to come!

I got to see this little cutie!

Look at those eyelashes! Any girl would kill to have them...{sigh}.

Remember me saying that my little sister's best friend had twins...Well, I also got to see those sweet babies last weekend! They were so tiny! I loved there being two babies. I am quite the baby hog, and with two babies I could pretty much hold one the whole time I was there. They were absolutely adorable!

Me holding sweet, little Tiffany! So tiny!!!
Precious Victoria!
Look at this little bitty hand holding my finger!

Ben has had finals this week. So of course, he has spent all of his time shut up in his office studying. He will be finished today! I can't wait and I know he can't either! Clemson spent most of her time sleeping under his feet but did get up some to study the cranial nerves.

I have been working on my backyard some. I have been watering it everyday trying to get grass to grow around a bed we made. And finally it is paying off!!!

My day lilies are in full bloom and my orange Asiatic lilies have started to bloom!

I also planted a purple pea vine next to my gate that my mom gave me. Well she actually gave me the seeds from her vine last year. I planted them and within days they went from this...

to this...

Once this thing gets started, it goes wild. Last year my sister planted it by her mailbox, and it went crazy!

I also planted some poppy seeds but they haven't done much yet.

I just love when everything is green and starts to bloom!

I also got to work this week! I know, I know...getting excited to work is kinda crazy! But when the days that I work are few and far between, I get pumped when I get a call to work! I am about to start working maternity leave for my good friend, Jessica, and I have some other fill-in days scheduled! So exciting! Haha!

My parents are coming down again this weekend and they are bringing Jaxon along with them! This time they are coming just to hang out...no work this weekend! Hopefully the weather will be in our favor! Hope you have a wonderful weekend!
