A Place for Sewing

Hey everyone! So I'm finally back to blogging. No, I haven't been gone anywhere. I've just been slacking. I'm so sorry to all of my loyal readers for being away for so long :( I actually got a full time job though! Plus, I have been driving back to Gainesville every weekend to work. So I have been pretty busy lately, but I am going to try to get back into this! So anyways, way back in February, I started a project, my sewing table. I wanted a pretty large table that I could use to cut fabric on, sew on, and do any other crafts on. I wanted it functional but esthetically pleasing at the same time. Here are a few pictures that I used for inspiration.

In this photo, I liked the table. This is the type of table that I had in mind for my sewing table. An old kitchen table, painted in a bright color.

I also liked this sewing table. It was really too small for what I needed it for though. I did like the idea of the chair with the upholstered seat, the thread holder, and a lamp.

I always have projects and certain items on my mind when I am out thrifting and such. So I had been thinking about this kitchen table when I noticed one almost identical to the one in the first picture at Ben's parent's house in the carport. I mentioned that I was looking for one and Ben's mom said I could have that one! That worked out perfect. Ben's grandmother, Mamoo, and his grandfather had actually built the table which made it that much more special.

Here is what we started with...

I was setting up the sewing table in our loft. It was really the only place in the house that I had space, plus my craft closet is there and the tv. I am going to go ahead in advance and say the pictures aren't wonderful because there is no natural light in the areas what-so-ever.

So here is the reveal.....

I painted the table green. I primed it, painted it with the green, distressed the edges, and finished it with Polycrylic. I have thought about painting something on the top of it but for now I am leaving it the way it is.

I had an old bulletin board, so I covered it with fabric and used tacks around the edge.

Ben made me the thread holder for Christmas, and I painted it gray. I made the pin cushion out of leftover fabric from the chair seat. Then I bought the ruler holder with a coupon from JoAnn's and the pen cup is an old candle holder that my sister gave me. I painted both of them white.

I got this chair from my mom and painted it gray. Then I covered the seat in a fabric that matched the table. (These pictures are obviously old since I have had my new couch since April and the old one is in the background..haha)

I got the lamp at Goodwill for $5. It was a brass lamp, and then I painted it with gray spray paint.

I am very satisfied with the turnout. Now I just need an extra room to make myself a craft room. :)
